Adrift in a post-apocalyptic world, they only have each other. Is it enough?

A virus that turns the infected into zombie-like killers spreads through a burning world thrown into lawless chaos. Lovers Parker and Adam have escaped to the open sea when they hear a message over the airwaves from a place called Salvation Island—a supposed safe haven.

Orphaned as a child, werewolf Adam has always longed for a pack. He’s eager to investigate the island, but Parker doesn’t think for a nanosecond that the voice on the radio can be believed. He doesn’t trust anyone but Adam and is determined to keep it that way. They don’t need anyone else complicating their struggle to survive. Or do they?

Danger on the high seas can surface in a heartbeat, and if Parker and Adam aren’t careful, the current will drag them under.

This gay romance from Keira Andrews is a dystopian adventure featuring a werewolf, his boyfriend, and their struggle to find their happy ending and a place to call home.

Book two in the Kick at the Darkness m/m shifter romance series.

This one was as good as the 1st one, even if with less action. I figured out the ending pretty much from the start, but it didn't take away my enjoyement of the book. What was fun was the journey, not the destination. Plus it's nice to have a happy ending.

I'm a sucker for books in which characters are stuck in one setting for most of the time, so I was pretty confident I would enjoy reading about Parker and Adam stuck on a boat, and I did. And I liked the new characters.
I liked that this book was more focused on all the characters dealing with trauma. After all, they're fighting to survive during pretty much what is an apocalypse. They lost their families, they've been betrayed and they've been living in fear for weeks. So it made sense for them to finally react to all of that, and I liked that, for once, an author did that. All of them reacted their own way to it too, which was realistic. And we could really see Parker's growth in this book. He changed a lot between the beginning of book 1 and the end of book 2. He gained in confidence a lot.

My only downside to this book were the sex scenes. I already found that there was too much in book 1 and I cringed several time (guys...lube is a thing, use it!) but in this one... yeah. It was worse. I don't fancy grimacing and being grossed out during sex scenes. And that specific one pretty much made no sense. Even biologically speaking I spent the whole time thinking "wait...that's not..that's not how people work" and then I had to stop myself from picturing it because trying to figure it out was not appelaling.

In the end though, that series was a good surprise. I'm not sure if a third book is planned or not, but I would be happy if the story ends here, I think it was a good place to stop.

Fight the Tide Shifter Gay Romance Kick at the Darkness Book 2 edition by Keira Andrews Romance eBooks Reviews

I liked the first book better as in this book Parker kinda turned a different attitude from the 1st book. I didn’t care for his snappy mouth. There was 1 sex scene in the middle of the book that came out of nowhere that I didn’t know where that came from but hope it does not return once the 3rd book comes out someday. To me it was kinda a shock and not as pleasing to my eyes, but that’s just me. I’m interested to see where the story leads and what answers it holds as well
Yikes.... it's always hard to follow up such an amazing first book, but Keira nails it. The voyage of Parker and Adam gets more treacherous, people die, the world is getting worse, it's pure survival of the fittest now. Parker and Adam are just amazing again, I love them. They are beautiful together, and there is one scene on the boat.... phew... I had to fan myself. But.... I get to the end to find out it's a HFN.... ARGH!!!!! Come on Keira, I need book 3 real soon... brilliant...
...Or so I'd like to say with authority. I agreed with Parker about that island all throughout the book until his distrust was little more than a whisper in the back of his mind. I really enjoyed the family thrown into their lives and the roles of Parker and Adam being switched, (mind out of the gutter, though that happens too.) with Parker being everyone's lifeline and devil's advocate. The characters' depth and developments are nice to read, as well.

I have to admit that I was worried the setting of this book was going to be greatly skewed to the island and be little more than The Pines on a greater scale. I'm so glad I was wrong and that ninety percent was everyone traveling and scavenging and trust-building.

Slight spoiler The type of wolf Adam is makes S.I.'s motivation about forgiving Parker that much fishier. And damn you, Adam, for throwing Parker's gun away.

I agree with Andrews's and Wilde's belief of, "The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means." But I'm far from sold on Salvation Island, especially since Adam's edge is gone, reminding me so much of their time in Colorado in book one.
4.5-5 stars

This was a great follow up to Kick at the Darkness. I loved Adam and Parker in book #1 and loved seeing their story continue in this book.

**Fair warning - there's deep fisting in the story. There's a reason for it and it's well done but just an FYI. **

When Parker and Adam arrived in Cape Cod in book #1 and didn't find Parker's parents, they decided to take a boat south to try to find safety. When this book begins, they've been on the sea for a few months, only coming to shore to forage for supplies and then go back to see and head further south. After some of the issues they've had in the past, they decided it was better to avoid others and this attitude seems validated when Parker runs into some trouble with modern day pirates while Adam's on a supply run. However, they keep hearing a radio broadcast from Salvation Island that offers a safe harbor for all that come and Adam feels pulled to go check it out. Parker on the other hand, is unwilling to trust anyone else and thinks it's a trap.

Regardless of Parker's insistence of not trusting anyone, they end up helping another boat at sea that is floundering in a storm. It's rocky at first but Parker eventually trust the people from the new boat and they decide to travel together. There are some difficulties though and this pushes the group to want to find some place on land they can make a safe home. Complications push them into trusting where they might not have previously. Thankfully, this ends them up in a place that seems good and where Parker, Adam and their friends can possibly make a home. I guess we'll have to wait for book #3 to find out for sure but it looks hopeful, which is pretty good in an apocalyptic situation.

I greatly enjoyed this continuation of the story and can't wait for book #3 to come out. I loved Parker and Adam in book #1 and I continued to love them in this one...they just make such a great couple. I thought the story was very well written and it kept me glued to my until I finished. I'd recommend this story...definitely for people that have read book #1 but enough was explained that I think people could read this on its own as well. D
